About the role
- Acts as a project or system leader, coordinating the activities of other engineers on the project or within the system
- Determines the technical tasks that other engineers will follow
- Ensures actions result in achievement of customer, operational, program or service objectives
- Proactively improves existing structures and processes
- Exercises judgement in reconciling diverse and competing priorities (time, quality, complexity, risk) to identify optimal solutions
- Notices patterns and condenses repetition into generalized solutions
- Collaborates with management to set/improve standards for engineering rigor
- Represents PayPal to external partners, customers, or industry organizations
Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Strong Java programming skills and familiarity with frameworks like Spring/Spring Boot
- Experience designing, building, and optimizing data workflows on big data platforms
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in big data platform projects (data processing, pipelines, distributed frameworks)
- Solid understanding of database technologies (relational and NoSQL)
- Experience integrating backend services with large-scale data storage and processing systems
- Demonstrated ability to design and architect AI-driven applications and cloud-based solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Ability to act as a project/system leader and represent the company externally
