About the role
- Staff Electrical Engineer responsible for leading electrical design in water/wastewater projects at Black & Veatch. Supporting business development and providing technical guidance to engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead Electrical design for water/wastewater projects
- Provide technical guidance on client standards and expectations to engineering and technician staff in the regional design centers supporting project detailed design
- Serve as technical expert in electrical power distribution and miscellaneous plant electrical systems for client consultations
- Support business development related to enhanced Electrical services
- Build business relationships with clients to understand needs and drivers
- Conduct studies – Energy Optimization, Power System Coordination and Arc Flash Hazard Analysis, and Electrical Reliability Analysis
- Conduct construction inspection and resolve electrical construction issues
- Coordinate with local electrical utilities on project technical needs
- Review supplier submittals
- Act as a liaison between the local design team, client and remote design teams for Instrumentation and Control design
- Conduct startup and testing of major electrical equipment
Requirements
- Professional Engineer’s license in IL or another US jurisdiction
- 5-8 years in electrical design, planning and construction services
- Consulting and Water/Wastewater experience preferred
- Experience in medium and low voltage power distribution equipment, including variable frequency drives and standby diesel generators
- Understanding of PLC hardware and software setup, network configuration, HMI, SCADA system, instrumentation and fiber optic cabling
- Experience in a client-facing/business development role
- Power system analysis experience in SKM, ETAP, or other analysis software a plus
- Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program
