About the role

  • Lead delivery of a wide range of mechanical engineering projects within Reactor Operations
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to project teams and clients
  • Perform feasibility and optioneering studies to generate design solutions
  • Develop engineering solutions through Concept, Scheme, Detailed Design and Construction phases
  • Support development of bids and value propositions
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery
  • Liaise with, present to, and influence stakeholders at all levels to build strong relationships
  • Support and develop junior engineers, fostering continuous learning and development
  • Work across UK nuclear programmes including reactor operations, new builds (Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C), SMRs, fusion, and decommissioning

Requirements

  • Degree qualified mechanical engineer, or other relevant qualification
  • Chartered or incorporated with a relevant professional institute e.g., IMechE
  • Experience leading the design and/or substantiation of mechanical equipment (mechanical handling systems, machinery, test rigs, mechanical components)
  • Experience operating engineering software for production of 3D CAD models, drawings, calculations, and Finite Element Analysis models
  • Experience working within design codes, standards and regulations e.g., ASME, Eurocodes, BS EN13001, RCC-M, machinery directive, HS&E legislation
  • Experience in hazard / fault identification studies e.g., ERICPD, HAZOP, HAZAN, FMEA
  • Experience in writing, checking, reviewing, and approving technical reports and documentation e.g., design calculations, basis of design, safety case reports, design reports
  • Comfortable using own judgement when managing uncertainty and technical risk
  • Previous experience of working in the UK nuclear defence industry
  • This role may require security clearance; vetting may require proof of UK residency for 5 years or longer
