About the role

  • Conduct inspections and condition assessments of fixed equipment, including metallic storage tanks, pressure vessels, and piping, at industrial facilities such as pulp and paper mills, chemical plants, and water/wastewater treatment sites.
  • Evaluate corrosion and other material-related degradation affecting both metallic and non-metallic equipment and structures.
  • Analyze equipment condition data to assess fitness-for-service in accordance with relevant engineering codes and standards.
  • Oversee small-scale capital projects focused on fixed equipment upgrades or repairs.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) for new construction and rehabilitation projects.
  • Prepare detailed repair specifications and technical drawing packages.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including structural and chemical engineers, designers, and project managers.
  • Travel to client sites as needed (approximately 25%, with increased frequency during scheduled outages).

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical or Materials/Metallurgical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in fixed equipment design, repair, inspection, failure modes, and troubleshooting
  • Experience in the pulp and paper industry with basic understanding of mill processes
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.3, API 510/570/579/650/653)
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to deliver work on time and can operate with the autonomy expected of a senior-level consultant
  • Willingness and ability to travel (25% of the time for short-duration assignments)
  • Physical ability to safely navigate uneven surfaces and stairs/ladders/scaffolding, work in confined spaces, and work at heights (with reasonable accommodations)
  • Preferred: PE License; experience with API/ASME pressure vessels and tank design/repair; experience with tools such as Compress, SolidWorks, Abaqus, MathCAD, or AutoCAD; background in corrosion engineering or pulp/paper processing equipment; familiarity with non-metallics (FRP, modified concrete, etc.)
