About the role

  • Senior Mechanical Engineer providing technical expertise in mechanical handling systems at Babcock. Leading design consultancy projects vital for national security with hybrid working.

Responsibilities

  • Influence complex engineering challenges and drive safety and reliability across operations.
  • Take a leading role in ensuring the integrity and performance of critical mechanical handling systems and equipment.
  • Provide technical expertise across design, configuration, and asset management.
  • Support projects that are vital to national security.
  • Maintain existing systems to deliver innovative design solutions.
  • Manage and maintain the design intent of mechanical handling systems and equipment.
  • Review maintenance regimes, specify replacement components, and support permanent modifications.
  • Lead design consultancy projects for new or modified crane and lifting systems.
  • Prepare asset health reports, conduct condition surveys, and support fault diagnosis.
  • Apply design and safety processes across the full lifecycle, from concept to commissioning.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the design process and evidence of designing and substantiating systems and components.
  • Extensive understanding of regulations, legislation, and standards for mechanical handling equipment.
  • Proficiency in producing and interpreting hand calculations and FEA.
  • Ability to read and produce electrical/mechanical engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of cranes, crane safety, and associated mechanical handling systems.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (minimum requirement).
  • Professional registration - Desirable.
  • The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
