Independently complete electronics and LED design activities including component selection, firmware solutions, LED drivers, and system controls
Calculate parameters for electronics and LED schematic configurations and work with Optics to meet lumens targets and lumens per watt
Develop and distribute engineering data: engineering change notices, bills of material, drawings, PCB design/manufacturing files, test specifications, parts tracking, and deliverables for product release and factory launch
Manage engineering documentation, ECRs, ECOs, DFMEA, calculations, and drawings using Acuity Product Life Management and financial systems
Perform new product development, product enhancements, cost reductions, field quality resolution, manufacturing support, and sustaining engineering activities
Initiate and complete product design from project charters and specification matrices, review competitor samples, and follow Acuity DFx standards
Manage projects, train others on Acuity Product Development System (PDS), and ensure project timelines and deliverables
Support ABS/LEAN transformation by identifying, leading, and participating in Kaizen events and post-Kaizen documentation
Lead Electronics & Light Engine process improvements, testing, DFx, and related documentation
Submit photometry/thermal test requests and coordinate with testing groups
Collaborate with mechanical design, manufacturing, distribution, and product management to ensure successful product launches and resolve production issues
Complete luminaire product scaling and continuously implement process improvements related to productivity, quality, reliability, design, testing, purchasing, and manufacturing
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering required (master's preferred)
At least four years of applicable experience in electronics and firmware engineering design
Demonstrated success in creating electronic hardware designs and microprocessor firmware/code
Proficient use of schematic capture and PCB layout tools, CAD(2D), Microsoft Office 365, MiniTab, SPICE, circuit analysis tools
Ability to communicate understanding of heat transfer/flow, thermal design considerations, electrical isolation, design cost trade-offs/analysis, EMI considerations, design prototyping, and design reliability testing
Experience independently and safely using benchtop electronics tools (oscilloscope, signal generator, curve tracer, power analyzer, DVM, surge and EMI generator, spectrum analyzer, Variac, illuminance flux/CCT measurement, RLC bridge, ESR meter, benchtop sphere, power quality measurement equipment)
Demonstrated understanding and use of electronic component selection, tolerance stack-up analysis, component reliability analysis, and simulation in computer circuit analysis tools
Ability to communicate understanding of PCBA manufacturing, factory testing methods, component selection impacts, and types of PCB materials
Ability to demonstrate LEAN & Six Sigma methodology and practices (standard work, time study, cause & effect, A3, 5WHY, DMAIC)
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including sketches, engineering drawings, data collection, and technical presentations
Ability to collaborate in cross-functional and cross-matrix team environments
Ability to quickly adapt to changes and produce compliant designs within business metrics
Understanding of applicable standards such as UL, DLC, Energy Star, and related testing processes
Ability to travel approximately 10% based on business needs
Ability to independently lift and manage products and loads up to 50 lbs
