Data Engineer designing and developing data solutions at Specsavers. Collaborating on data pipelines and migrations with analysts and stakeholders.
About the role
- Support the team in building data pipelines, batch and real time ingestion
- Work on services such as user segmentation, geo-scoring, cross devices reconciliation, audience broadening, and rich media/video standards
- Convergence and rationalisation of platform between VPTech and Media
- Responsible for code delivery and quality: documentation, testing, code review, CI/CD
- Infrastructure provisioning and management
- Automation and monitoring of process execution and quality
- Design solution architecture to meet volume and SLA constraints
- Keep improving technical knowledge by participating in the Veepee data engineering community, conferences, open-source contributions, and meetups
Requirements
- Ideally at least 5 years of experience in software engineering, preferably in the data field
- Strong knowledge of Python and SQL
- Scala is a plus
- Experience with data processing technologies like DBT, Spark, Kafka
- Experience with distributed data systems: Datalakes (Trino, Iceberg), SQL and No-SQL databases, Cloud storage (e.g. GCS / S3)
- Used to work in a cloud environment (GCP, AWS, Azure,...)
- Familiar with the concepts of microservice architecture
- Prior experience with deploying containers on a platform like Kubernetes or Nomad and its ecosystem is a big plus
- Proficiency with version control Git
- Interest in machine learning and data analytics
- Strong verbal and written English language skills
- Focused on code quality and code efficiency with a taste for automation
