About the role

  • Manage and secure the organization’s network infrastructure and systems
  • Design, configure, and maintain network hardware including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, and VPNs
  • Monitor network performance and ensure availability for users across multiple sites
  • Implement and manage network segmentation to support security and scalability
  • Maintain documentation of network topology, configurations, and procedures
  • Manage and maintain security tools including firewalls, endpoint protection, MDR/EDR partner and Phishing tests
  • Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and remediate findings
  • Implement and enforce security policies including access control, password standards, and MFA
  • Monitor for threats, incidents, and unusual activity; lead initial incident response and escalate as necessary
  • Provide Tier 2/3 escalation support for network and security-related issues and partner with help desk and systems administrator
  • Maintain regular system backups and disaster recovery readiness for critical infrastructure
  • Recommend and implement network and security improvements aligned with organizational growth
  • Participate in IT roadmap planning and support strategic projects such as system upgrades or adding new capabilities
  • Educate staff on security awareness and best practices
  • Communicate professionally with customers, employees, and volunteers and provide customer-oriented ticket communication
  • Travel to different work sites and attend occasional off-site meetings and events

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience in network administration and cybersecurity within a medium-sized or multi-site organization required; 4+ years of experience preferred
  • Hands-on experience with firewalls (e.g., Fortinet, Cisco, Palo Alto), VPN technologies, and network monitoring tools
  • Experience with security frameworks and compliance standards such as PCI DSS
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and VPNs
  • Experience with endpoint protection, IDS/IPS, SIEM, and MFA solutions
  • Familiarity with Security frameworks (NIST, CIS, ISO)
  • Ability to lift, carry, and handle items up to 50 lbs unassisted
  • Comfortable with the emotional aspects of working in an animal shelter, including the use of humane euthanasia
