About the role

• Legal Counsel supporting Tidal Energy Marketing in Calgary or Houston. Focused on delivering legal guidance on energy commodities trading and related agreements.

Responsibilities

• Delivering day-to-day legal support to Tidal Energy Marketing (Tidal)
• Draft, negotiate, and review various commodity trading agreements and related documentation
• Draft, negotiate, and review confidentiality agreements, memorandums of understanding, letters of intent, and other agreements
• Interpret financial reform regulations impacting energy commodity derivatives trading
• Advise business on prospective merger and acquisition activity
• Coordinate with Legal and Compliance colleagues and other internal groups
• Ensure compliance with CAD import/export, and US export control and sanctions laws
• Evaluate relevant compliance and regulatory legal issues and assist with investigations or claims concerning the business

Requirements

• Canadian, Commonwealth or US law degree, call to the bar and a membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta or the State of Texas
• Minimum of four to six years of related legal experience
• Ability to work both independently and as a team player
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to adapt quickly, prioritize effectively and have a well-developed level of common sense and business acumen
• Ability to work discreetly, particularly when conducting investigations into potentially sensitive or confidential matters.
