About the role

  • Global Safety & Security Analyst monitoring and analyzing security threats across HIAS global operations. Supporting incident management and policy development to ensure staff safety and operational integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Global Threat Intelligence & Risk Analysis
  • Closely monitor and analyze national and international security issues, geopolitical trends, and potential threats (geopolitical, extremist, terrorist, criminal, and natural) that might impact HIAS regional operations.
  • Collect, analyze, and summarize intelligence data and trends across Global, U.S., NGO/nonprofit and corporate environments to produce specialized reports.
  • Conduct ongoing analysis and assessments of threats and risks, including initial remote security assessments for new projects and Security Risk Assessments (SRAs) for off-site locations and headquarters (NYC/Silver Spring) properties.
  • Maintain a Monthly Security Briefing for senior staff and provide ad hoc analysis to country office and US Programs leadership as needed.
  • Incident & Online Threat Management
  • Coordinate with internal working groups and external online threat vendors to identify and analyze incoming threats in both the online and physical realms.
  • Maintain an incident reporting and tracking platform/database across the organization, collecting and analyzing data related to concerning outreach attempts (postage, mail, emails, phone, etc.).
  • Monitor a threat tracking email account and filtration system to redirect and clear concerning/threatening emails to Customer Care from high-threat senders.
  • Monitor daily security bulletins, open-source channels, and social media for potential threats to HIAS personnel, assets, clients, and reputation and provide immediate alerts to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Provide real-time geolocation tracking support utilizing external safety, security, and risk management service provider platforms.
  • Policy, Procedures, and Operational Support
  • Assist with the development, review, and continual refinement of HIAS health, safety, and security operational policies, protocols, and procedures for HIAS global operating environments.
  • Support in the development and maintenance of country-specific security overview packets for visitors and country/city risk profiles.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the Global Safety & Security department annual budget, ensuring appropriate security-related costs are included in organizational budgets and project proposals.
  • Monitor and support compliance with GSS policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Maintain and update relevant pages on HIAS intranet site.
  • Training, Capacity Building, and Partnership
  • As needed, support with location-relevant training needs and requirements for staff, driver, and Security Focal Points across HIAS global programs and offices.
  • Develop and conduct new employee safety and security onboarding.
  • Represent HIAS and collaborate with members of the NGO, private sector, and other relevant safety & security communities at meetings, conferences, forums, and associations to build relationships, share information, identify areas of cooperation.
  • Manage interactions with third-party and external security providers, including due diligence, evaluation, and assessment of subcontractors.
  • Crisis and Incident Management
  • Assist with coordination and support of HIAS Crisis Management Team.
  • Provide support with and coordinate incident response and investigations of safety and security-related incidents globally.
  • Planning: Work in concert with Country Directors and Security Focal Points to develop country and project-specific Security/Incident Management Plans

Requirements

  • A Bachelors degree in a relevant field (e.g., International Relations, Security Management, Intelligence Analysis, Risk Management, or Criminal Justice) or significant relevant work experience.
  • A Master's degree in a related discipline is preferred.
  • 5-7 years of progressive professional experience in a safety and security analysis or management role, with a significant portion dedicated to international development or humanitarian aid contexts, preferred.
  • Previous professional experience within a non-governmental organization (NGO) or large international corporation.
  • Experience developing and implementing comprehensive security management plans, including risk assessments, incident management, and contingency plans.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex security data and geopolitical trends into actionable intelligence and insights.
  • Demonstrated global awareness of geopolitical issues and international security challenges.
  • A strong understanding of humanitarian principles and the operational context of aid delivery is essential.
  • Expertise in using information analysis, database search tools, and OSINT (Open-Source Intelligence).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in incident management and data analysis tools.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure in challenging environments.
  • Fluency in English (written and verbal) is mandatory; proficiency in a second language such as French or Spanish preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for liaising effectively with local and federal law enforcement and external security partners.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication.
