About the role

  • Execute mechanical design of ECUs per program timing, leading to successful launch of the product
  • Own Module HW and in some cases SW release
  • Design mechanical components including castings, injection moldings, stampings, seals, electrical interface, PCBA mounts, connector interface and fastening
  • Perform design calculations, GD&T and tolerance stacks
  • Create 3D CAD, 2D CAD & lead CAD reviews with stakeholders
  • Develop analysis and test plan for new design, perform proof of concept tests and analysis
  • Lead prototyping and testing, analyze test data, and make necessary adjustments to mechanical designs
  • Work with electrical engineers and PCBA designers to integrate components into electro-mechanical systems
  • Validation documentation and tracking as module owner
  • Assess and aid in selection of semi-conductors for assigned modules
  • Build partnerships with internal functional peers and Tier 1 suppliers to align on ECU design
  • Develop virtualization technologies to accelerate and de-risk product development
  • Communicate design progress and risks to stakeholders and customers
  • Drive Mechanical design strategy for the enterprise

Requirements

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree
  • Must be graduating between Dec 2025 – June 2026
  • Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week
  • GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship (no H1-B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, J-1, etc.)
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (NX and Teamcenter preferred, but not required)
  • 2D drawings, tolerance analysis, design for manufacturability, and assembly
  • Analytical skills and engineering fundamentals in solid mechanics, material science, heat transfer, mechanism design, and manufacturing
  • Hands-on experience engaging with electronics manufacturers
  • Mechanical design of PCBAs, computers, or automotive electronic
  • Understanding of thermal solutions and their application
  • Knowledge of vibrational and structural analysis
  • Experience with ASME Y14.5-2009 dimensioning & tolerancing standards
  • Ability to perform design calculations, GD&T and tolerance stacks
  • Ability to create 3D CAD, 2D CAD & lead CAD reviews with stakeholders
  • Ability to develop analysis and test plans, lead prototyping and testing, and analyze test data
