About the role

  • Senior Geotechnical or Geological Engineer acting as Engineer of Record for tailings storage at BGC. Contributing to design, construction, and operation of storage facilities in Montreal or Quebec City.

Responsibilities

  • The scope of work overseen by the Engineer of Record will include planning and conducting site investigations, characterization of foundations and tailings for geotechnical design, hazard and failure mode assessments, stability analyses, preparation of construction drawings and specifications, construction monitoring and quality assurance, responses to contractor and client requests for information, dam safety inspections, review of instrumentation data, and preparation of record reports.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team related to the performance of tailings storage facilities.
  • Annual inspections and reporting (dam safety inspections, etc.).
  • Present technical content to a variety of stakeholders, including clients, regulators and independent technical review boards.
  • Perform other Engineer of Record responsibilities as required, in accordance with standards, guidelines, regulations and/or the facility owner.
  • Train, mentor and supervise the technical work of junior, intermediate and senior staff.
  • Contribute to promoting BGC’s vision, values and culture among staff.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated skills and experience in mine tailings management for the responsibilities noted above.
  • Undergraduate degree in civil or geological engineering.
  • Graduate degree in geological, geotechnical or civil engineering preferred.
  • Licensed/registered Professional Engineer in Québec.
  • More than 15 years of relevant professional experience in tailings management, dam design or mining geotechnical engineering.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of applicable regulations, including the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) and other relevant guidelines and standards.
  • Experience across all phases of major tailings projects: investigation, design, construction, operation and closure.
  • Sufficient proficiency in English to communicate with English-speaking clients and colleagues is required.
