About the role
- Provide day-to-day legal guidance on federal and state compliance requirements
- Design and support implementation of internal policies and procedures to support regulatory compliance and risk mitigation
- Partner with Compliance and Engineering teams to assess data flows and privacy practices
- Draft, review, and negotiate carrier partnership agreements, including licensing, commission structures, and data-sharing terms
- Advise on advertising claims, savings comparisons, and marketing language to ensure compliance with state insurance laws and advertising standards
- Counsel on sales practices and consumer experience for regulatory alignment and ethical standards
- Provide guidance on evolving state and federal insurance regulations and support licensure matters as needed
- Serve as a strategic advisor to Marketing, Product, and Sales teams
- Support internal training initiatives related to advertising compliance, privacy, and marketing best practices
- Assist with regulatory examinations, audits, and responses to inquiries or enforcement actions
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- 6–8 years of relevant legal experience, with a blend of in-house and law firm experience preferred
- Significant experience advising on marketing and privacy compliance, including TCPA, CIPA, and data privacy regulations
- Demonstrated understanding of the insurance industry, especially regarding carrier relationships, advertising review, and sales compliance
- Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills
- Ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical, actionable advice for non-legal stakeholders
- Self-starter with excellent judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities
