About the role

  • Consultant in Acoustics and Vibrations for ERM focusing on environmental noise assessments and vibration engineering. Conduct fieldwork and collaborate on projects across various geographies.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-quality environmental noise assessment, pre-and-post construction noise surveys, and acoustical modeling
  • Provide noise mitigation recommendations to ERM’s clients
  • Provide creative and fit-for-purpose acoustical analyses for client projects
  • Conduct field work across a range of environments and conditions for noise and vibration measurement baseline and impact studies and evaluate compliance with regulatory standards
  • Utilize advanced tools (e.g., CadnaA) to develop predictive modeling for noise impact assessment projects
  • Analyze data from web-based research, aerial imagery, and survey reports to assess project-related noise impacts
  • Prepare technical reports, proposals, and regulatory submissions, including supporting documents for environmental approvals and permitting processes
  • Assist in developing noise control measures and programs for projects
  • Act as the subject matter expert for noise impact analysis in environmental assessments across various Canadian and international jurisdictions
  • Collaborate with ERM’s Acoustical Community and multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Engage in agency consultations and participate in site visits, as well as agency and public meetings, as necessary
  • Ensure all work aligns with quality, budget, and schedule expectations, adhering to ERM's management system and quality standards

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
  • Advanced degrees focusing on acoustics or vibration are advantageous
  • 1 to 4 years of experience in a professional services or consulting firm
  • Good foundation in noise and vibration principles, familiarity with industrial noise control specifications, and noise and vibration measurement techniques
  • Knowledge of or experience with noise modeling software such as CadnaA, STAMSON, TNM, or other industry-standard tools
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and provincial noise guidelines and proficiency in reviewing engineering drawings and specifications
  • Knowledge of or experience with various sound and vibration measurement instruments
  • Eligibility for Professional Engineer registration in Ontario, British Columbia, or Alberta
  • Programming skills (e.g., Python, Java) and proficiency in Excel Macros/VBA for workflow efficiency is an asset
  • Strong Microsoft Office experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access)
  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health & Safety protocols
  • Effective written and verbal communication and analytical skills including experience writing technical reports and organize data logically
  • A collaborative team player, eagerness to learn and grow, self-starter who takes initiative, versatile, and service-oriented mentality
  • Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.
