About the role
- Senior Tax Consultant ensuring tax compliance in New Zealand for Xero. Collaborating with the wider Finance Team and providing timely tax advice.
Responsibilities
- ensure Xero’s tax obligations are met with precision
- ownership of New Zealand tax compliance, including fringe benefits tax and income tax reporting
- provide beautiful tax services supporting the wider group’s mission to help small businesses thrive
- become a trusted advisor, offering timely tax advice and collaborating to navigate complex tax landscapes
- master tax effect accounting and contribute to global projects
- deliver comprehensive tax compliance and fringe benefits tax reporting for New Zealand entities
- prepare month end tax effect accounting calculations and support financial reporting requirements
- support the Transfer Pricing Team to ensure international compliance matters are accurately reflected in filings
- embrace AI tools and innovative processes to improve delivery of tax services
Requirements
- strong background in tax compliance, including experience with tax accounting and New Zealand tax legislation
- deep understanding of tax effect accounting and ability to manage complex reporting for financial purposes
- natural curiosity for problem solving and finding efficient ways to challenge the status quo
- experience with tax matters outside of New Zealand, such as South African or APAC jurisdictions, would be a great asset
- comfortable using or learning AI tools like Gemini or Glean to enhance daily workflows
- professional qualification such as CA, CPA, or a legal background
