About the role

  • Director of Corporate Finance at WUSC managing financial reporting, compliance, and risk management. Overseeing accounting processes, budgeting, and mentoring finance team with strategic direction.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the integrity of WUSC’s financial information
  • Timely and accurate financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian and international accounting principles and best practices
  • Manage the full cycle accounting process including month end close and reconciliations
  • Prepares consolidated financial statements
  • Manages the external financial statements audit processes
  • Prepares internal financial reports including variance analysis for senior management
  • Maintains and develops policies, guidelines and procedures for financial activities
  • Supports the treasury management process including cash flow forecasting
  • Ensures timely and accurate filing of statutory reporting including regulatory, tax and other filings
  • Leads the annual organizational budgeting process
  • Develops forecasts and scenario plans
  • Supports the CFO in internal risk assessment processes
  • Develops comprehensive risk management strategies
  • Acts as internal subject matter expert on Risk Management practices
  • Creates working environment free from sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment (SEAH)
  • Leading, mentoring, and managing the Corporate Finance team; fostering a culture of high performance.

Requirements

  • Master degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field
  • Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation is required
  • A minimum of Ten (10) years accounting, risk management, and/or audit experience with at least five (5) years audit experience
  • A minimum of five (5) years full cycle accounting in a supervisory role.
  • Previous not-for-profit experience considered an asset
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards and compliance with statutory requirements in the Canadian charity sector
  • Experience in budgeting and forecasting
  • Experience developing and implementing financial policies and procedures
  • Ability to communicate and effectively engage and influence at all levels of the organization
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Capacity to identify and articulate potential problems and provide possible solutions in a concise and clear manner.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, work independently, and take initiative.
  • Curious, enthusiastic and willing to innovate and adapt.
  • Experience with Netsuite, Dynamics GP and/or SAGE50 considered an asset.
