About the role
- Director of Corporate Finance at WUSC managing financial reporting, compliance, and risk management. Overseeing accounting processes, budgeting, and mentoring finance team with strategic direction.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the integrity of WUSC’s financial information
- Timely and accurate financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with Canadian and international accounting principles and best practices
- Manage the full cycle accounting process including month end close and reconciliations
- Prepares consolidated financial statements
- Manages the external financial statements audit processes
- Prepares internal financial reports including variance analysis for senior management
- Maintains and develops policies, guidelines and procedures for financial activities
- Supports the treasury management process including cash flow forecasting
- Ensures timely and accurate filing of statutory reporting including regulatory, tax and other filings
- Leads the annual organizational budgeting process
- Develops forecasts and scenario plans
- Supports the CFO in internal risk assessment processes
- Develops comprehensive risk management strategies
- Acts as internal subject matter expert on Risk Management practices
- Creates working environment free from sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment (SEAH)
- Leading, mentoring, and managing the Corporate Finance team; fostering a culture of high performance.
Requirements
- Master degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field
- Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation is required
- A minimum of Ten (10) years accounting, risk management, and/or audit experience with at least five (5) years audit experience
- A minimum of five (5) years full cycle accounting in a supervisory role.
- Previous not-for-profit experience considered an asset
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards and compliance with statutory requirements in the Canadian charity sector
- Experience in budgeting and forecasting
- Experience developing and implementing financial policies and procedures
- Ability to communicate and effectively engage and influence at all levels of the organization
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Capacity to identify and articulate potential problems and provide possible solutions in a concise and clear manner.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, work independently, and take initiative.
- Curious, enthusiastic and willing to innovate and adapt.
- Experience with Netsuite, Dynamics GP and/or SAGE50 considered an asset.
