About the role

  • Principal Analyst leading the development of load forecasting capabilities for US and Canada power markets. Collaborating with teams and improving forecasting accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of Wood Mackenzie's long-term load forecasting capabilities for the US and Canada power markets
  • Develop and maintain sophisticated, scalable and automated econometric models
  • Own the end-to-end load forecasting process
  • Collaborate with internal research teams forecasting discrete demand sources
  • Produce regular load forecast updates aligned with Wood Mackenzie's publication cycle
  • Author analytical insights and research on electricity demand trends
  • Provide expert guidance to clients on load forecasting methodology
  • Present research findings at industry conferences and client events
  • Continuously improve forecasting capabilities

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of direct experience in long-term electricity load forecasting, preferably within a utility, ISO/RTO, regulatory agency, research or consulting environment
  • Demonstrated expertise in econometric demand modelling, including understanding of key load drivers, regression techniques, time-series analysis, and forecast validation methods
  • Strong programming and automation skills with proficiency in Python, R, or similar languages
  • Proficiency in SQL for data extraction and manipulation; experience with Excel and data visualization tools
  • Proven ability to work with large-scale datasets from diverse sources
  • Quantitative degree (engineering, economics, statistics, data science, or related field)
