- Radiation Therapist administering radiation therapy at UMass Memorial Health in Fitchburg. Delivering high-quality care and safety in radiological treatment as part of the healthcare team.
Responsibilities
- Plans, prepares, and delivers a prescribed course of radiation to patient
- Checks prescription, diagnosis, chart and patient-identification prior to treatment
- Explains procedure to patient as means of communication during treatment
- Answers questions and reassures patient
- Reinforces physician’s advice to patient regarding reactions to treatment and to care
- Administers radiation therapy treatments observing radiation safety measures for patients and personnel
- Transfers patient safety to treatment table, giving special care to catheters, I.V.’s, and the like
- Monitors patient and equipment during treatment
- Maintains patient markings
- Maintains simulation room
- Assists Radiation (Oncologist) and Physicist in simulation of patients prior to radiation treatments
- Observes patient for unusual reactions and reports to supervisor or others
- Maintains departmental records
- Updates patient charts as required
- Maintains records of daily treatment
- Schedules patient appointments
- Assists in care and maintenance of facilities, equipment and supplies
- Maintains work area in clean, orderly and safe condition
- Maintains equipment in good working order; makes minor repairs as necessary
- Reports any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdown immediately to supervisor or others
- Initiates requisitions for supplies as needed.
Requirements
- Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy
- If not registered upon hire, the employee will have 1 year to obtain certification as a condition of continued employment
- Must possess a valid Massachusetts license in Radiation Therapy
- Graduate of CAHEA-approved Radiation Therapy Technology Program (preferred)
- Demonstrated clinical knowledge
- Effective verbal and written communication skill
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to work cooperatively with all members of the healthcare team
