About the role

  • Director leading PCBA Value Engineering at Thermo Fisher Scientific. Driving modernization and productivity across engineering, operations, and supply chain for enterprise solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the global PCBA Value Engineering strategy aligned with enterprise productivity, modernization, and lifecycle objectives
  • Establish governance models, operating cadence, KPIs, and reporting mechanisms to ensure transparency, accountability, and measurable results
  • Develop and maintain a multi-year PCBA modernization roadmap tied to cost savings, risk mitigation, platform consolidation, and supply chain resilience
  • Serve as executive-level technical authority for PCBA value engineering initiatives across divisions
  • Build and manage a robust pipeline of Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives to achieve annual and long-range productivity targets
  • Lead business case development including NPV, ROI, capital requirements, risk analysis, and resource planning
  • Partner with Finance and Procurement to align savings recognition and investment prioritization
  • Drive accelerated implementation of modernization and redesign programs to support NPIs and lifecycle management
  • Lead and develop a high-performing global team of electrical engineers focused on alternate component selection, redesign, validation, and supplier implementation
  • Oversee complex PCBA redesign programs requiring cross-site validation, regulatory consideration, and supplier coordination
  • Ensure technical rigor in component lifecycle management, obsolescence mitigation, and risk reduction strategies
  • Partner with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, and Procurement leaders to align technical solutions with business priorities
  • Support EMS Category Management through technical RFQ evaluation, VAVE ideation, and supplier capability assessments
  • Drive strategic collaboration with Tier 1 and Tier 2 EMS partners to enhance manufacturing efficiency, test optimization, and cost structure
  • Identify enterprise-wide best practices and institutionalize standard work across divisions
  • Enable platform consolidation, design harmonization, and test efficiency improvements
  • Facilitate engineering changes through PLM systems while ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality standards

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or related technical discipline preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in engineering and/or manufacturing environments
  • 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams and cross-functional programs
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following: PCBA design or manufacturing, Electrical or electromechanical component engineering, Electrical systems and controls design, Power management systems
  • Proven experience leading complex, multi-site Value Engineering initiatives
  • Strong financial acumen including business case development, ROI/NPV modeling, and productivity tracking
  • Experience driving change across matrixed, global organizations
  • Excellent executive communication skills with experience presenting to Director/VP-level leadership
  • Electrical Engineering degree (advanced degree a plus)
  • Hands-on experience with PCBA design, hardware/firmware integration
  • eCAD tools experience (e.g., Altium) and component lifecycle management systems
  • Experience working directly with procurement organizations and EMS suppliers
  • Knowledge of phase-gate development processes and NPI governance
  • Experience managing engineering change workflows within PLM systems
  • Familiarity with regulated industries (FDA, ISO 13485, UL, CSA, NSF, etc.)
