About the role
- Senior Data Platform Engineer for The Hartford overseeing AWS Big Data solutions. Collaborating with teams to ensure data platform scalability and reliability across various enterprise applications.
Responsibilities
- Administer and engineer Big Data platforms across multiple Hadoop clusters in the cloud (AWS EMR)
- Design and maintain scalable and resilient multi-tenant Data Platforms through Infrastructure as Code
- Ensure operational excellence and service restoration in high impact incidents
- Apply Site Reliability Engineering principles to design robust tooling and automated responses
- Own and evolve the architecture of Platform, PaaS, and SaaS solutions
- Participate in on-call rotation for service-impacting incidents
- Evaluate and manage emerging data technologies to drive innovation
- Serve as a subject matter expert for data platforms and application interfaces
- Provide leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level data engineers
- Develop training materials and user training sessions
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field (or foreign equivalent)
- Extensive expertise in platform administration, big data technologies, data engineering, analytics, and operations
- Proficiency in tools including Hadoop, Linux, Python, SQL, Spark, and cloud platforms
- At least 7 years of progressive experience in IT, platform administration, or analytics
- At least 3 years of hands-on engineering experience in developing AWS platform solutions
- Knowledge in data engineering with exposure to designing and building data applications
- Experience in change and incident management processes
- Experience in implementing Reliability Engineering and Observability dashboards
- Strong analytical ability and problem analysis techniques
- Strong communication skills.
