About the role

  • Lead Digital Developer overseeing a team of designers to create story-led digital experiences for The Telegraph. Engaging in hands-on development and leadership in a hybrid environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and support a small team of digital designers, helping them develop their design and development skills and confidence across Commercial projects.
  • Design and develop digital campaign components, including bespoke long-form content and other story-led formats that require custom development.
  • Continuously review and refine creative output to improve campaign performance and user experience.
  • Take ownership of projects from concept through to final delivery, ensuring work is produced to a high standard and delivered on time.
  • Review and provide constructive feedback on your team’s work in a collaborative and timely way.
  • Attend internal meetings to understand campaign objectives, contribute creative ideas, and present design and UX approaches where needed.
  • Work closely with colleagues across the business to ensure projects are delivered smoothly and on schedule.
  • Keep up to date with emerging design and development trends, helping to shape new ideas and formats for future campaigns.

Requirements

  • A strong portfolio showcasing a range of digital development work.
  • Solid knowledge of web technologies, digital design trends and best practice for building and delivering online experiences.
  • Strong understanding of responsive design and how to implement it effectively across devices.
  • Proficiency in core front-end development languages including HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Familiarity with the wider digital design ecosystem, including tools and libraries that support development workflows (for example Relume or Formly).
  • Experience implementing analytics, custom event tracking and other performance metrics.
  • A good understanding of core design principles such as typography, colour and layout.
  • Comfortable receiving and applying constructive feedback to improve work and outcomes.
  • Experience with UI prototyping tools such as Figma would be beneficial.
  • Experience with JavaScript animation libraries such as GSAP would be a plus
