About the role

  • Associate General Counsel at S&P Global managing privacy and data compliance across global regulations. Leading legal strategies in cybersecurity and AI governance with significant visibility among senior leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a comprehensive global privacy and data protection legal strategy across S&P Global, ensuring compliance with applicable privacy regulations.
  • Oversee global data privacy and protection program governance, including policy development, training initiatives, and compliance monitoring.
  • Lead legal response to complex privacy and data incidents, partnering with Information Security, senior leadership, and other stakeholders to manage regulatory, legal, and reputational risk.
  • Act as the primary legal interface with Information Security leadership, advising on security governance, incident readiness, and regulatory expectations tied to cybersecurity and operational resilience.
  • Advise on legal and regulatory issues arising from S&P Global’s development and deployment of artificial intelligence, including responsible AI governance, model risk, and emerging AI legislation.
  • Guide and mentor a small global team of privacy attorneys and professionals, setting clear expectations, supporting development, and fostering a high-performance, collaborative team culture.
  • Translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into clear, actionable guidance for technical and business stakeholders.
  • Partner with legal and business leaders to assess privacy, data protection, and AI risks in new products, services, and data processing activities, providing practical legal solutions.
  • Monitor and interpret emerging global privacy, data, cybersecurity, and AI regulations, translating legal developments into actionable guidance and proactive risk mitigation strategies.
  • Represent Legal as a thought leader on privacy, data protection, and AI contributing to internal education, cross-functional initiatives, and external engagement where appropriate.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution, with admission and good standing in at least one jurisdiction, and the ability to practice effectively in a complex, multinational regulatory environment.
  • 15+ years of progressive legal experience counseling on global privacy and cybersecurity laws and regulations impacting the financial services, data, and technology industry; experience advising on AI governance and emerging AI regulation strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated strong legal and business judgment and strategic thinking in a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape with strong ability to prioritize and focus on critical initiatives; strives for operational excellence and holds teams accountable.
  • Exceptional public speaking and written communication abilities, complete with strategic influencing acumen — must be clear and concise.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with members of senior management, as well as adaptability and willingness to take on a wide variety of new tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Deep technical competence with the ability to understand and analyze the breadth of S&P Global’s products and services, including data-driven and AI-enabled offerings, comfortable engaging credibly with technical teams.
  • Operate as a player-coach, able to get into the details and execute while supporting and building a collaborative team.
  • Low ego with a high level of professionalism.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with teams across regions and time zones.
