About the role

• IT Systems Engineer responsible for designing, implementing, and operating Microsoft SQL Server installations at Schaeffler. Focused on both on-premises and Microsoft Azure cloud environments.

Responsibilities

• Designing, implementing and operating Microsoft SQL Server installations in both On Premises and Microsoft Azure cloud environments according to architecture Best Practices and standards;
• Managing and improving reporting environments based upon SQL Server Reporting Services;
• Developing ETL processes based upon SQL Server Integration Services and integrating imports into a Data Warehouse infrastructure;
• Managing increasing complexity and interdependency of Microsoft SQL Server components by using latest technologies and integrating high level cloud services from MS Azure (Managed Databases and Instances, Azure Arc);
• Implementing and enforcing policies and controls based on security specifications to ensure the security and compliance of Microsoft SQL Server;
• Consulting customers, providing expert guidance and collaboration on how to best leverage Microsoft SQL Server for their application deployments in both On Premises and MS Azure cloud platforms, while adhering to security policies.

Requirements

• Academic Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or an equivalent qualification;
• Long-term professional experience as a Database Engineer in Microsoft SQL Server with a strong focus on building and maintaining cloud database infrastructure, possessing in-depth knowledge of MS Azure.
• Familiarity with other Cloud platforms (AWS) is beneficial;
• Experience with Reporting tools like MS Reporting Services and Power BI;
• Experience with ETL tools like SQL Server Integration Services and integrating data imports into an existing Data Warehouse infrastructure;
• Several years of experience in the administration of Microsoft Windows Server OS, especially regarding configuration, automation, scripting, and monitoring, with a deep understanding of how this applies to building and maintaining SQL Server installations;
• Ability to write well-formatted, structured, and clean code in Microsoft T-SQL and Windows PowerShell;
• Debugging and command-line skills on Microsoft Windows Server OS and Azure cloud environments, with a focus on infrastructure and platform troubleshooting, including security-related issues;
• Passion for automation with PowerShell scripting and Windows Shell Script programming, and cloud infrastructure services on Microsoft Azure, with a strong emphasis on security best practices and policy enforcement;
• Fluent English language skills (written and spoken);
• German would be beneficial;
• Enthusiasm for direct and frequent interaction with internal customers, providing expert guidance and fostering collaboration with colleagues on building and utilizing the database infrastructure in both on premises and cloud environments, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
