About the role

  • Senior Health Physicist providing technical guidance in radiological designs and modifications at Savannah River Mission Completion in Aiken, SC. Responsible for radiation protection controls and compliance with standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical guidance in support of company radiological designs and modifications
  • Calculates, analyzes, establishes, and incorporates proper radiological protection controls to prevent or minimize adverse effects to onsite personnel, the surrounding public, and the environment
  • Performs standard to complex assessments, calculations, and/or monitoring to determine the proper radiological controls and shielding required to meet or exceed company/regulatory standards
  • Manages (tracking, estimating, etc.) and communicates changes to assigned schedule
  • Conducts peer review of tests and calculations for validity
  • Prepares briefings, presentations, technical papers, reports, and lectures for department management
  • Performs research and analyzes new equipment to develop cost-effective solutions and improvements

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering, health physics or applicable science or engineering discipline from an accredited college or university and relevant professional experience
  • Thorough knowledge of health physics concepts, principles and techniques; general knowledge of related disciplines
  • Working knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations, DOE Orders, and ANSI standards that provide guidance and requirements for radiation protection programs
  • Familiarity with MCNP, SCALE, Origen ARP, MicroShield, HOTSPOT codes
  • Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Health Physics or related engineering or scientific discipline preferred for Senior Health Physicist II and III
