About the role

  • Director overseeing property tax consulting and appeal services for clients at Ryan. Managing both new and existing client relationships while leading a team of managers.

Responsibilities

  • The Property Tax Director oversees Sr. Managers/Managers to provide property tax consulting and appeal services for assigned clients.
  • Actively pursues new client opportunities and maintains existing client relationships.
  • Enforces policies, standards and guidelines, researches tax issues, oversees valuations of real property, negotiates settlements related to assessment reduction, and prepares and presents assessment appeals and supporting litigation.
  • Responsible for creating positive team member experiences, which lead to excellent client service and drive revenue and profit for the Firm.
  • Manage and monitor all aspects of the annual property tax cycle for assigned real property portfolios.
  • Demonstrates superior knowledge in assessment review, valuation and industry expertise.
  • Schedule, coordinate and lead all status calls/client presentations and consistently update them on recent appeal activities and status of engagements.
  • Attend hearings, settlement conferences, and negotiations through settlement.
  • Review and manage client contract terms, scope of services and fees.
  • Manage client billing and ensure timely collection of receivables (less than 90 days).
  • Demonstrate ownership of individual engagements/clients.
  • Actively involved in business development of new clients, maintaining existing clients, and focusing on cross-selling efforts.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to team and act as mentor to new Managers.
  • Ensure team compliance with Firm policies, practice guidelines, and standards.
  • Give timely performance feedback to team members and address, document, and escalate performance issues.
  • Ensure workload is properly distributed among team members and hold team members accountable for completion of assigned projects.
  • Build eminence by leading internal training and speaking at external events and writing articles.
  • Participate actively in professional organizations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • University Degree, College Diploma, or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Real Estate, Business Management or other degree with MBA, MST or JD required.
  • Minimum of ten years property tax related experience required.
  • Demonstrated leadership, problem solving, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work on multiple assignments, and manage ambiguity.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with professionals at all levels.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Director should maintain professional designations such as Certified Member of the Institute (CMI), and Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM), or equivalent, and keep active in professional organizations on a local and national level.
