Staff Accountant managing month-end close for the leading property manager of single-family rental homes. Assisting with debt service entries and collaborating across departments for accurate financial reporting.
Responsibilities
The Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting with the month end close process and to ensure transactions are recorded in the proper period.
The position is responsible for debt service related entries as well as assisting the accounting team with REIT accounting responsibilities.
The position requires interfacing with various departments in the Company to provide and receive information pertinent to various accounting issues.
Work in a manner that meets budgeted costs and constraints of the accounting department.
Assist in measuring Company’s performance toward achieving its goals.
Actively participate in month end close and search for continuous improvement in quality and timeliness of work.
Prepares monthly waterfall/debt service entries.
Prepares monthly Reserve reimbursement requests.
Prepares cash entries daily.
Prepares and completes bank reconciliations at month end.
Completes required account reconciliations related to debt and other accounts as needed.
Assist with processing manual checks, as needed.
Assist with interim and annual financial audits.
Maintain and improve reporting as needed to meet management requests.
Draft and update accounting policies, procedures, practices, and guidelines as requested by management related to debt and other related tasks.
Conduct special projects and other services at the request of management, which includes financial analysis and accounting research.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university, preferably with an accounting major.
1 to 3 years related accounting experience preferred.
Must be proficient in various software packages including, but not limited to, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Office.
Property Management experience a strong plus.
Must be proficient in use of various accounting software.
Yardi experience preferred.
Must be proficient in accounting rules, including prepaids and accrual recognition.
