About the role

  • Intern in System Automation Engineering at PG&E focusing on Automation for substations and transmission. Collaborate with engineering teams to improve system reliability and support operations.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside experienced engineers to ensure excellent service for projects.
  • Actively promote safe practices and conduct in accordance with the Corporate Safety policy.
  • Accomplish the department goal of zero injuries & avoidable auto incidents.
  • Foster teamwork, innovation and embrace new approaches.
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality design products on budget and on time.
  • Participate in project walkdown and project meetings.
  • Identify SCADA deficiencies, prepare SCADA topology at a substation and issue Automation requirements.
  • Provide construction drawing reviews.
  • Engage and collaborate with vendors on training.
  • Determine and issue relay settings for integrated station annunciators.
  • Determine and issue IP_DNP addresses for integrated devices on LAN in a substation.
  • Program Remote Terminal Unit (RTU).
  • Troubleshoot automation equipment malfunctions.
  • Assist in supporting new remote access and user authentication applications.
  • Store the latest RTU configuration and point list on approved system of records.
  • Work with and learn from other departments involved in Substations.

Requirements

  • Earning a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering degree or related discipline at an accredited University.
  • Must be continuing their education toward a degree during and/or after the internship
  • Desired: EIT or FE certification
  • 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
  • Strong programming skills
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Engineering experience in utilities, municipalities, construction, or engineering consultation
  • Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
  • Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction.
  • PG&E is unable to provide VISA sponsorship to students on an F-1, J-1 or other student visa for this position.
