About the role

  • Senior Transmission Planning Engineer responsible for transmission planning and project implementation supporting PG&E's reliable electric service. Involves technical guidance and compliance leadership in electric transmission operations.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting interconnection studies and multi-year assessments
  • Developing transmission expansion plans to ensure safe and reliable electric service
  • Adhering to NERC and WECC planning standards
  • Participating in the development of reliability standards and transmission expansion policy
  • Supporting various internal departments such as operations, law, and contracts
  • Providing technical, planning and project implementation support for transmission, substation, and distribution systems
  • Leading and managing approval process for PG&E’s transmission load forecast
  • Leading generator testing and model development
  • Developing HVDC or other non-standard equipment models for power flow and dynamic stability analysis
  • Leading and supporting development of Annual Transmission Planning Assessment and Expansion Plan
  • Providing technical guidance to internal departments (Engineering, Operations, Substation and T-line asset strategy, Distribution Planning etc.) on planning and policy issues
  • Leading complex studies such as RAS design related studies
  • Developing and standardizing new analytic methods for power system analysis/modeling
  • Leading the development of interconnection handbook, criteria, and standards for WECC/NERC compliance
  • Guiding and directing the work of lower-level engineers on interconnection studies, where appropriate
  • Providing technical expertise and leading in the implementation of complex and large-scale projects including projects that require a Permit to Construct (PTC) permit
  • Implementing complex projects requiring CPCN permit with guidance
  • Leading in preparation of need portion of filings with regulatory agencies on transmission projects as necessary
  • Leading FERC/NERC/WECC/CAISO compliance requirements such as F1004 forms, RIMS, FNM, and FAC, TPL, NUC, and MOD reliability standards and criterion
  • Leading annual Gap Analysis for FERC/NERC compliance
  • Participating in short and long-term strategy and capital investment planning activities

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited curriculum in the US or the equivalent from outside the US
  • 8 years of experience in electric transmission planning studies
  • Advanced knowledge in power system theory
  • Knowledge of PG&E’s transmission system
  • Knowledge of NERC/WECC standards
  • Experience in electric system operations
  • Programming skills in Matlab, Python, VBA, EPCL
  • A California PE license
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering
