Actuarial Assistant supporting sustainable growth of sales and profits at Globe Life. Responsible for financial analytics, pricing assumptions, and data management in a hybrid role.
Responsibilities
Support of Enterprise Strategy, including financial analytics, industry insights & economics, trend analytics, detailed claim review, and market analytics/competitive intelligence.
Develop pricing assumptions used to produce premium rates for existing and new products through experience studies, including claims costs, persistency, lapses, and morbidity.
Calculate appropriate premium levels and rating structures for new and existing insurance products.
Provide rate increase recommendations, prepare exhibits, and draft objection responses in support of rate filing activities.
Document analytical, rate filing, and formal actuarial reporting for internal and external business partners, including sales/underwriting, valuation, marketing, and state/federal agencies.
Oversee data collection, cleaning/validation, development of data architecture, and maintenance of the health actuarial data warehouse.
Create and update analytical frameworks designed to assess the financial risk of insurance products.
Work primarily independently on straightforward tasks, and under supervision for larger, moderately complex projects.
Support project deliverable execution with direction and review from a more senior actuary.
Identify and recommend enhancements to systems or products to solve problems and improve Actuarial Team effectiveness.
Maintain a strong focus on continuous self-development.
Requirements
Programming skills in SQL, SAS, Python, R, VBA, or similar programming languages.
Experience in any or the following is a plus: Columnar and relational databases (like Redshift, SQL Server, or Aurora), Data visualization and reporting tools (like Tableau, Qlik, or PowerBI), AWS Services (such as S3, Workspaces, Lambda, DMS, Glue, and Athena)
Broad, theoretical knowledge of health insurance products, pricing methodologies, industry awareness, regulatory environment, and non-actuarial functions and their interaction with actuarial work.
Competency in data analysis, modeling and problem-solving skills, coupled with attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and foundational knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Ability to be a versatile, self-motivated learner with ability to pick up new skills necessary to get the job done.
Strong work ethic with good time management to meet timelines and requirements.
Ability to be adaptable to a dynamic environment and changing priorities.
