Senior Fixed Assets Accountant managing full lifecycle of fixed assets accounting at MezTal. Collaborating with finance and accounting teams in a hybrid role based in Guadalajara.
Responsibilities
Own and manage the complete fixed assets lifecycle, including CAPEX approvals, capitalization, depreciation, impairments, transfers, retirements, and disposals.
Serve as the primary decision-maker for capitalization versus expense treatment in accordance with company policy, US GAAP, and IFRS.
Maintain and govern the fixed asset register, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and audit readiness.
Prepare and review monthly depreciation, amortization, and fixed asset journal entries.
Reconcile fixed asset sub-ledgers to the general ledger on a monthly basis and resolve complex discrepancies.
Lead fixed asset roll-forwards and supporting schedules for month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close.
Manage accounting for leases, including IFRS 16 / ASC 842 analysis, contract reviews, amendments, and monthly accounting entries.
Coordinate and oversee physical inventories of fixed assets and investigate variances.
Ensure compliance with property tax and other asset-related tax requirements, supporting filings and audits as needed.
Support internal, external, and SOX audits by preparing documentation, explanations, and technical accounting support related to fixed assets and leases.
Analyze fixed asset data to identify risks, control gaps, and opportunities for process and system improvements.
Design, maintain, and enhance internal controls over fixed assets in line with SOX or equivalent control frameworks.
Act as a key partner during ERP implementations, system upgrades, or process transformations related to fixed assets and CAPEX.
Prepare and deliver fixed assets reporting, KPIs, and ad-hoc analysis for Finance leadership and stakeholders.
Stay current on changes in accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices related to fixed assets and lease accounting.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
8–10+ years of progressive experience in fixed assets accounting, CAPEX, or controlling roles.
Demonstrated experience in large, complex, or multinational organizations.
Strong, hands-on knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS, with specific depth in fixed assets and lease accounting (IFRS 16 / ASC 842).
Proven ability to independently manage the full fixed assets function with minimal supervision.
Extensive experience supporting internal, external, and SOX audits.
Advanced proficiency in enterprise ERP systems, preferably SAP (fixed assets, CAPEX, and lease modules).
Advanced Excel skills, including reconciliations, roll-forwards, and large data analysis.
Strong analytical mindset with excellent judgment and attention to detail.
Ability to communicate clearly with auditors, finance leaders, and cross-functional teams.
High level of integrity and ability to manage sensitive and complex financial information.
Preferred Qualification: Experience in capital-intensive industries such as manufacturing, real estate, healthcare, energy, or infrastructure.
Experience with multi-country or multi-entity accounting environments.
Prior involvement in ERP implementations or major system transformations.
CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional certification is a strong plus.
Experience developing fixed asset KPIs or management reporting.
