About the role

  • Transportation/Traffic Engineering Associate at Michael Baker International. Assisting Civil Engineers with preparation of transport plans and traffic engineering analyses in Virginia.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Civil Engineers and Project Managers with the preparation of transportation plans, traffic engineering analyses, and transportation studies.
  • Collaborate with transportation staff to provide traffic support for corridor studies, environmental documents, roadway design projects and design-build projects.
  • Involved in the development of traffic forecasts and traffic analyses; including the organization of data collection, field investigations, calculations, operational and safety analyses, preparation of report tables/figures and report writing.
  • Coordinate with Roadway Design group with recommendations of geometric operational improvements and prepare conceptual designs of recommended project alternatives.
  • Conducting technical analyses for operations, safety, and transportation planning studies.
  • Preparing technical reports.
  • Preparing transportation-related plans (traffic signals, signing and pavement marking, intelligent transportation systems, roadway lighting and traffic control) and graphics.
  • Collecting field data, traffic counts, and other research.
  • Preparing quantities and construction cost estimates.
  • Traveling to job sites for site visits, data collection, and meetings, as required.
  • Providing technical support for meetings.
  • Other duties as directed by senior staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Traffic/Transportation Engineering, or a closely related field required.
  • Minimum of 2 to 4 years of relevant professional experience; possession of a master's degree in a pertinent discipline may substitute for up to one year of experience.
  • Prior experience leading or contributing to VDOT projects is essential, with a strong understanding of VDOT policies, procedures, and project delivery expectations
  • Proficiency with traffic analysis software (HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic) utilized in planning and design applications.
  • Solid working knowledge of industry-standard analysis methodologies and development criteria or concepts.
  • Demonstrated excellence in technical writing, with the ability to prepare documentation using Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with MicroStation is preferred.
  • Familiarity with AGi32 Lighting Design Software and prior involvement in developing lighting design plans are highly desirable.
  • Experience in VISSIM simulation software preferred
