About the role

  • Bilingual Safety Specialist for utility vegetation management company ensuring safety and compliance. Leading training and maintaining safety standards in field environments with significant travel.

Responsibilities

  • Be a visible leader who influences, motivates, and models Lewis Operating Principles
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with Operations to drive continuous, positive safety improvements
  • Participate in morning huddles and deliver safety talks ("tailgates" or "safety moments") to work teams
  • Conduct site observations to identify potential hazards and verify compliance with company requirements and regulations; provide feedback to Operations leadership
  • Provide timely assistance and consistent interpretation of company safety policies and procedures, as well as regulatory requirements
  • Train and coach employees in safe work practices for pruning and line-clearance tools (saws, trimmers, poles, rigging/lifting equipment, harnesses, aerial work platforms, etc.)
  • Investigate and analyze incidents using current methodologies to promote organizational learning and increase the ability to "fail safely"
  • Communicate safety program needs to regional leadership
  • Report accurately and on time to Regional Safety and Operations leadership
  • Travel frequently, providing supervision and support during field visits with Safety Specialists, Operations leaders, and crews

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of high school diploma/GED plus safety or industry credentials (CUSP, CTSP, ASP, GSP, ISA Certified Arborist) or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in line clearance or a related industry
  • Knowledge of OSHA and ANSI requirements; OSHA 30-hour course or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • Bilingualism (Spanish/English) preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Safety Engineering, or Occupational Health and Safety preferred
  • Minimum 1 year in a safety leadership role
  • CTSP (Certified Treecare Safety Professional) certification – required within the first year of employment
  • CUSP (Certified Utility Safety Professional) certification
