About the role
- Manufacturing Engineer supporting Unmanned Systems business in Richardson, TX. Solving manufacturing problems and driving continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities
- Investigate and implement alternate/new manufacturing processes and technologies for emerging programs.
- Provide key technical input on all product designs for manufacturing ease and cost considerations.
- This includes analyzing different design approaches and manufacturing methods.
- Examine early assembly prototyping/testing to provide feedback in the design process.
- Identify and justify capital equipment needs for capacity and capability expansion.
- Provide technical mentorship for team in areas of expertise.
- Contribute to CAM and IPT activities.
- Initiate and review manufacturing workflow and processes/procedures such as: Work/assembly instructions, Rework and modification instructions, Travelers/routers, Special process instructions, Standard repair instructions.
- Review and approve drawings for the Manufacturing Department (i.e. sign off authority).
- Communicate information between the design and manufacturing teams and ensure that design feedback from manufacturing is relayed to engineering.
- Lead and support Lean Manufacturing initiatives in the organization such as 5S, Tool Control, etc.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience.
- Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
- In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
- Masters degree in relevant engineering field or related field and/or equivalent experience desired.
- Experience and knowledge of manufacturing methods, specifically in composites, metals, and electronics.
- Experience leading small teams.
- Experience with technical writing, specifically work instructions and process documentation.
- Experience in aviation or military systems manufacturing.
- Experience with creating and presenting performance metrics.
- Experience with Capital Equipment justification and BOEs.
- Excellent people skills to include collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.
- Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, & presentation).
- Experience in a 3D CAD software. Experience in Creo is preferred.
- Experience with Power BI or data analytics.
- Experience/certification in lean practices; 5S, six sigma.
