About the role

  • Senior Research Manager leading humanitarian and nexus teams for IMPACT Initiatives in Syria. Overseeing research unit activities and managing local and international teams.

Responsibilities

  • Direct management of international and national team members, including recruitment and staff career development.
  • Development and implementation of capacity-building training plans for team members.
  • Day-to-day management of team members, including the development of work plans and performance indicators.
  • Ensure all assessments and analyses are planned and implemented in a structured and coherent manner, aligned with relevant project and strategic objectives and global REACH guidelines.
  • Oversee all research cycles, including reviewing Terms of Reference (ToRs), methodology notes, tools, products and dissemination strategies.
  • Ensure the production of timely, accurate and analytically rigorous reports, assessments and factsheets.
  • Ensure relevant stakeholders and partners are engaged in assessment design and planning.
  • Monitor output achievement and project expenditure, ensuring timely completion of projects.
  • Actively advocate for improved analysis within REACH products, promoting common methodologies, tools and analysis frameworks across units where relevant.
  • Contribute to managing grants in the unit, including initial discussions with donors, conceptualization of new projects, proposal drafting, regular reporting and M&E.
  • Contribute to the financial management of all grants covering the unit’s projects, including working with finance teams to ensure project deliverables align with financial obligations.
  • Ensure contractual obligations are met in terms of program deliverables.
  • Represent IMPACT and REACH with donors, partners and the wider humanitarian/development community in Syria.
  • Proactively build relationships with relevant stakeholders and identify new opportunities to fill information gaps and support fundraising.
  • Develop the research unit’s strategy, engagement and participation in various technical and coordination forums.
  • Work with key clusters and partner organizations to identify information gaps within Syria and determine how the unit can address them.
  • Develop and implement dissemination strategies to strengthen programme impact.

Requirements

  • 4–5 years of relevant experience in a humanitarian context, such as program management, evaluation and assessments.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative research design, data collection and data analysis experience required.
  • Good understanding of the humanitarian system and the research community. Prior experience with humanitarian coordination forums preferred.
  • Demonstrated team management skills, including remote management.
  • Prior experience with humanitarian and nexus research preferred.
  • Past experience working in Syria is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and drafting skills for effective reporting and review.
  • Ability to operate in a cross-cultural environment, demonstrate flexibility and work independently.
  • Excellent academic qualifications; a master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.
  • Proven knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Familiarity with R, SPSS and/or STATA or other statistical analysis software is an asset.
  • Fluency in English required; competency in Arabic is an asset.
