About the role

  • Tax Manager overseeing federal and state tax matters for Hempel in North America. Collaborating with senior leadership to drive operational and strategic tax outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a comprehensive tax calendar and ensure all statutory deadlines are met
  • Prepare and/or manage the preparation of federal and state income tax returns, including extensions and estimated tax payments
  • Manage tax audits and inquiries from state and federal tax authorities
  • Manage third-party vendors for sales, use, and property taxes
  • Calculate income tax provisions for monthly and annual financial reporting
  • Develop, document, and monitor internal controls over tax processes
  • Reconcile tax‑related general ledger accounts monthly
  • Serve as primary point of contact for state and federal tax authorities
  • Coordinate with internal Finance, Legal, and external advisors on tax matters impacting North America
  • Work with tax planning opportunities and communicate findings to the Tax Director
  • Research federal and state tax technical issues and prepare supporting documentation or technical memos
  • Provide tax guidance on specific transactions and collaborate with Finance to respond to tax‑related information requests
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes for gathering and managing tax‑sensitive information

Requirements

  • CPA required
  • Minimum five years of experience in tax, including public accounting experience
  • Prior experience working directly with state and federal tax authorities
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business; Master’s in Tax or Finance preferred
  • Experience with accounting software systems; Microsoft D365 experience preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel; strong skills with PowerPoint and database tools such as Access
  • Willingness to travel occasionally within the region and abroad
