About the role

  • Accessibility Specialist ensuring ADA compliance for language service operations. Collaborating on inclusive design and providing training to meet accessibility standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive ADA compliance strategy for all aspects of the language service operations, including but not limited to:
  • Ensure that translation, interpretation (including sign language and tactile interpretation), and other language services are provided in an accessible manner, meeting the communication needs of individuals with various disabilities (e.g., visual impairments, hearing impairments, cognitive disabilities).
  • Collaborate with DTP specialists and Project Managers and development teams to ensure all digital platforms, websites, client portals, and internal tools are WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) compliant and accessible to users with disabilities.
  • Review and ensure all client-facing and internal documentation, marketing materials, and training materials are accessible.
  • Draft, review, and update internal policies, procedures, and guidelines to reflect current ADA regulations and best practices.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for all employees, including linguists, project managers, sales teams, and administrative staff, on ADA requirements, disability awareness, and best practices for serving individuals with disabilities.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments of our services, technologies, and processes to identify potential areas of non-compliance and recommend corrective actions.
  • Investigate and respond to ADA-related inquiries, concerns, and complaints from clients, employees, or third parties, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for ADA-related matters, working closely with legal counsel, human resources, IT, and operations teams to ensure a consistent and compliant approach.
  • Continuously monitor changes in ADA regulations, accessibility standards (e.g., Section 508, WCAG), and emerging technologies related to accessibility, and advise management on necessary adjustments.
  • Collaborate with Operations Manager/Project Manager for vendor management to ensure that third-party vendors and partners providing services to our clients also adhere to ADA compliance standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Law, Public Administration, Disability Studies, or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years of ADA compliance experience in a regulated or service-oriented industry; background in language services or tech is preferred.
  • Deep understanding of ADA (Titles I-III), Section 508, and WCAG 2.1/2.2 standards, including their application under federal and state accessibility laws and regulations.
  • Functional understanding with assistive technologies and their role in facilitating accessibility for individuals with disabilities.
  • Detail-oriented problem solver capable of managing different priorities and rigorous documentation within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with a proven ability to translate complex legal and technical concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Expertise in working with Microsoft Office, InDesign, and Acrobat PDF, with the versatility to handle various file formats as required.
  • Skilled in ensuring document accessibility using CommonLook or similar document remediation software.
  • Perform accessibility audits on remediated PDFs, utilizing screen readers (NVDA or other similar software) for functional usability testing to ensure full compliance with accessibility standards.
  • Experience working directly with individuals with disabilities.
  • Proficiency with multimedia tools, including OBS Studio and video editing software is a plus.
  • Familiarity with basic HTML, CSS, or ARIA roles (for occasional web-based accessibility support)
  • Understanding of the unique accessibility challenges in linguistic services (e.g., visual interpretation, captioning, alternative communication methods).
  • Certification in accessibility (e.g., CPACC, WAS) is a plus.
