About the role

  • Information Governance Officer supporting compliance with GDPR and privacy legislation for Gloucester City Council. Maintaining frameworks and coordinating responses to data requests with a customer-focused approach in a hybrid role.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Council and the Data Protection Officer to ensure compliance with GDPR and all relevant privacy legislation
  • Maintain and develop the Information Governance Framework
  • Oversee and coordinate responses to Subject Access Requests (SARs) and Freedom of Information (FOI) requests
  • Act as the investigating officer for data protection breaches
  • Conduct risk assessments and manage information governance risks
  • Provide expert advice on data protection, records management, and best practice
  • Lead reviews of data governance processes for high‑risk projects
  • Deliver essential training to colleagues

Requirements

  • Experience of GDPR compliance work
  • Ability to conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs)
  • Strong understanding of data protection principles
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Customer‑focused approach
