About the role

  • Research Assistant at Leibniz-Institut für Kristallzüchtung focusing on characterization of ferroelectric materials. Collaborating with international partners on X-ray diffraction and electrical measurements.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on characterizing the structure of single crystals subjected to time-dependent electric fields
  • Conduct time- and field-dependent X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements in laboratory settings and at synchrotron radiation sources
  • Perform spatially resolved characterization on the microscale to study the influence of domain walls on elastic strain and polarization fields
  • Carry out complementary characterization by laser interferometry and piezo-force microscopy (PFM) at IKZ, together with electrical measurements
  • Project conducted in collaboration with Tel Aviv University (TAU) and TU Bergakademie Freiberg, requiring regular scientific exchange

Requirements

  • MSc degree in physics, materials science, or a closely related discipline
  • Basic programming skills, ideally in Python
  • Ability to self-manage and actively collaborate within a team of scientists, technicians, and students
  • Good command of English
  • Basic knowledge of German is an advantage
  • Practical experience with single-crystal X-ray diffraction for bulk or thin-film characterization is an asset
  • Experience using synchrotron radiation is advantageous
  • Experience with electrical measurements (I–V / P–E loops) and electrical circuitry
  • Education in crystallography

Benefits

  • 30 vacation days (based on a 5-day workweek)
  • Flexible working hours
