About the role

Senior Electrical Engineer developing underwater systems from concept to support for Expleo in Cheadle. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure functional design of mission-critical subsystems.

Responsibilities

Define, analyse, and manage electrical and functional requirements for underwater systems and subsystems.
Develop detailed electrical designs, including schematics, circuit layouts, and wiring diagrams.
Integrate electrical subsystems into larger sonar and mission system architectures.
Participate in design reviews, FMEA/FMECA processes, and configuration control activities.
Produce high-quality technical documentation (requirements, ICDs, design reports, test procedures).
Support build, integration, and verification in both laboratory and platform environments.
Ensure compliance with relevant electrical and defence standards (Def Stan, MIL-STD, EMC/EMI, safety).
Collaborate with Systems, Mechanical, and Software teams to ensure cohesive, end-to-end functionality.
Contribute to system trials, acceptance testing, and technical liaison with customers and suppliers.

Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or related discipline.
Demonstrated experience across the full engineering lifecycle — from concept to verification.
Strong understanding of power distribution, control systems, grounding, EMC/EMI, and cabling.
Proficiency with electrical design tools (e.g. AutoCAD Electrical, Zuken, or similar).
Familiarity with Def Stan, MIL-STD, and naval electrical standards.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
Eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC).
