About the role

  • Advanced Control Engineer optimizing turbine and combustion control strategies for efficient power plant operations at Emerson. Leading DCS commissioning and innovative control solutions for enhanced performance.

Responsibilities

  • Boiler & Turbine Control Excellence – Innovate and optimize PID loops for combustion, drum level, and feedwater control, ensuring seamless and highly efficient turbine performance with intelligent load-sharing strategies.
  • Improve Steam Temperature Control - Implement new control strategies, such as spray attemperation and reheater tuning, to maintain efficient steam conditions, minimize thermal stress, and increase plant longevity.
  • Advanced Combustion Optimization – Drive efficiency by fine-tuning air-fuel ratios, enhancing emissions control, and optimizing burner management systems for superior heat rate and flame stability.
  • Improving Unit Rate & Load Optimization – Developing smart load demand control strategies, fine-tuning heat rate optimization, and improving turbine governor tuning to increase fuel efficiency and grid stability.
  • Reliable Drum Level & Feedwater Control – Engineer multi-element drum level controls with adaptive tuning, ensuring outstanding stability under fluctuating load conditions while minimizing shrink and swell effects.
  • Implement brand new MPC strategies to minimize process variability, improve system stability, and seamlessly integrate with advanced DCS/PLC systems.
  • DCS Commissioning (Emerson Ovation) – Lead with expertise in configuring, programming, and commissioning DCS, optimizing plant performance, and ensuring smooth power plant operations.
  • Innovative Fuzzy Logic & Advanced Control – Harness intelligent control solutions, integrating fuzzy logic with PID and MPC for unparalleled efficiency, adaptability, and process excellence.
  • Data-Driven Process Optimization & Performance Enhancement – Analyze critical operational data to identify growth opportunities, drive efficiency, and collaborate with plant teams to ensure a future-ready power plant.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s / Master’s or equivalent experience in Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5-15+ years of hands-on experience in power plant control, process automation, and advanced control strategies, driving efficiency and innovation.
  • Deep expertise in control system engineering, power plant automation, and turbine control, enabling seamless process optimization.
  • Proven proficiency in PID tuning, boiler tuning, and process modeling, ensuring maximum efficiency and reliability.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in Emerson Ovation DCS commissioning and fixing, driving seamless plant operations.
  • Mastery of Model Predictive Control (MPC), multivariable control, and fuzzy logic control, enhancing automation and performance.
  • Strong background in steam temperature optimization, combustion optimization, and unit rate optimization, leading to greater energy efficiency.
