About the role

  • Support and advise on the Company’s global data protection program consistent with relevant laws and regulations, including on best practices, mitigation of privacy risk, and compliance with U.S. and global data protection laws, legal and regulatory aspects of data collection and use, privacy disclosures and transparency, consent forms, and related issues.
  • Review and advise on privacy considerations related to systems and data processing activities, as well as emerging products and technologies while partnering with cross-functional, global teams to ensure the design of new products, features, and business initiatives incorporate privacy and data security compliance.
  • Provide legal support for the strategic reviewing, drafting, and negotiating of privacy and data security terms in contracts with business partners and vendors, including data processing agreements, intra-company data transfer agreements, and standard contractual clauses (SCCs), and other data protection terms in agreements.
  • Prepare Transfer Impact Assessments.
  • Provide legal support on investigations involving reports of inappropriate or unauthorized access, loss or disclosure of personal data, including advising on potential liability, identifying legal obligations, and supporting incident response efforts.
  • Support development of enterprise-wide best practices for incident response readiness and advising on all aspects of incident response, whether privacy and/or cybersecurity related.
  • Manage outside counsel effectively and efficiently.
  • Support the continuous improvement of standard forms and the development and improvement of policies and procedures for the Legal Department. Execute assigned projects as determined by the needs of the Legal Department.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience counseling on global data protection and privacy laws.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from a nationally recognized law school.
  • Requires standard competencies found in large legal environments: organization, communication, analysis, flexibility, process improvement and management of large projects.
  • Experience at a law firm with global offices and experience as in-house counsel is highly preferred.
  • Experience with business to business transactions with a focus on GDPR and CCPA is highly preferred.
  • Candidates with Privacy certifications, such as, CIPP-US, CIPP-C, CIPP-E, CIPM, CHPC, as well as an understanding of data processing and information security concepts and technologies and evaluating SOC2 reports for scope and control adequacy are highly preferred.
  • Ability to identify and research legal risks and issues, and effectively counsel clients.
