About the role

Responsibilities

  • Support lawyers and law students by conducting research to locate legal documentation or information on companies
  • Analyze and summarize relevant information for client files
  • Prepare and draft clear, concise research reports
  • Conduct in-depth legislative research at the federal and provincial levels and prepare information updates
  • Use AI tools and support their use to produce legal and business research as well as various deliverables
  • Develop training on research methods and tools in legal and business areas using state-of-the-art approaches and technologies, and deliver these trainings to law students, lawyers, and other firm members
  • Participate in global research and information projects, professional development, and learning initiatives
  • Perform any other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Library Science or Information Science, or an equivalent degree in Law or Legal Studies
  • Experience in legal research within a law library (courthouse, government agency, academic institution, corporate environment, law firm, or consulting/professional services firm)
  • Strong client service orientation
  • Interpersonal skills and strong written and verbal communication; high attention to detail
  • Proficiency in English*
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Strong technical skills and online research abilities; good knowledge of legal and business research platforms and tools, including Westlaw / Westlaw AI, Lexis Advance Quicklaw, SOQUIJ, Practical Law Canada
  • Excellent project and time management skills; ability to manage multiple files simultaneously
  • Adaptability to change and ability to manage or participate in new initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a team spread across multiple offices
