About the role
- Backend Engineer developing robust backend systems for an AI-first software company. Collaborating with diverse teams to enhance AI capabilities and improve infrastructure performance.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend features and APIs for our core platform
- Improve database performance, reliability and real-time data processing
- Debug, profile and optimise code to keep latency low and systems stable
- Collaborate with AI, frontend and product teams to integrate new capabilities
- Contribute to architectural decisions and shape the evolution of our backend stack
Requirements
- 3–5 years’ experience building production-grade backends (Python preferred; Go, C++, or Java also valuable)
- Solid in SQL and data modelling (PostgreSQL or similar)
- Experienced with REST APIs and cloud environments (AWS preferred)
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of a problem
- Startup mindset — quick to ship, focused on quality, allergic to bureaucracy
- Nice to have: Linux debugging and performance tuning, Familiarity with orchestration (Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible), Experience with data pipelines or analytical databases, Interest in edge/cloud hybrid architectures
