About the role

  • Attorney providing strategic legal expertise and leadership for privacy and technology regulations at TruStage. Collaborating with senior management to navigate the legal landscape surrounding data and technology.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize a high degree of general business knowledge and judgment, including an in-depth understanding of TruStage operations, customers, programs, and plans to advise executive and senior management to help TruStage achieve its corporate goals and develop competitive advantages resulting from changing legal and business environments.
  • Establish close partnerships with assigned business leaders and their teams.
  • Advise on and participate in complex projects, collaborating across legal and compliance teams and with business and technology clients, as appropriate.
  • Deliver innovative legal solutions that anticipate future legal issues related to product, program, customer and operational needs of TruStage.
  • Monitor and review complex new laws, regulations, and case law; identify and summarize relevant issues.
  • Understand interaction in regulated environments between business, policy, compliance, legislative and legal frameworks.
  • Match legal resource utilized to the level of risk and complexity.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to other attorneys and compliance professionals.
  • Proactively develop internal and external relationships in area of expertise that can be leveraged to gain insight on issues and best practices.
  • Develop relationships with all levels of leaders that result in counsel being sought in area of expertise.
  • Authority and responsibility to assist clients in the development of strategic and business plans and procedures in conjunction with Executive and Senior management.
  • Actively monitor industry legal and business developments; identify and drive business changes given developments in area of expertise and businesses impacted.
  • Educate clients on legal developments in area of expertise.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor or L.L.B. Degree and continuing legal education within areas of specialty and responsibility.
  • Authorized to practice law in the State of Wisconsin or applicable jurisdiction.
  • Up to ten years of legal experience with overall expert status in privacy, cybersecurity, and/or artificial intelligence laws and regulations, including GLBA, FCRA, CCPA, HIPAA, NYDFS Cybersecurity Regulation, Colorado ECDIS, and others.
  • In-depth knowledge of TruStage products, programs, operations, policies and strategies gained through experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of credit union marketplace.
  • In-depth knowledge of area of expertise gained through experience in the insurance and/or financial services industries and formal education.
  • Ability to recognize current and anticipate future developments in the legal environment, marketplace and TruStage products, programs and operations.
  • Ability to understand and use economic, financial, and industry data to appropriately balance business opportunities and legal risks.
  • Ability to interact with clients and other parties in a manner that inspires a high degree of trust, invites consultation and promotes communication.
  • Significant degree of business acumen to enable attorney to evaluate and propose alternatives that are not only legally permissible but which also make sense from a business standpoint.
  • Strong analytical skills, creativity and significant experience in analyzing and providing practical, effective solutions to significant, complex transactions and issues.
  • Ability to lead by influence and cross-functionally, organize and coordinate committees, work groups, project teams and/or task forces and effectively access TruStage resources.
  • Ability to negotiate, clearly communicate and to persuade others.
