Common Cause is a nonpartisan organization focused on promoting open and accountable democracy. With a membership of over 1.5 million people and operations in every congressional district, Common Cause advocates for voter rights, ethical governance, and reforms to ensure fair political processes like redistricting. The organization also engages in campaigns to resist actions perceived as threats to democratic values and to support pro-democracy reforms. Established in 1970, Common Cause works through grassroots efforts and policy advocacy to achieve its mission of building a government that works for all citizens.

• Set the strategic direction for and advance our California and national policy agenda 
• Manage all aspects of the legislative process for Common Cause in California
• Act as the team’s primary representative in meetings with elected leaders, legislative leaders, and other critical stakeholders 
• Build relationships with key legislative staff at the state capitol to help advance our policy agenda
• Collaborate with program staff to leverage their subject matter expertise to support our advocacy efforts
• Drive legislative advocacy campaigns and lead coalition meetings
• Write op-eds, research reports, legislative factsheets, policy briefs, and memos
• Support fundraising efforts by engaging with key donors and funding organizations

• Develop strategic plans to leverage existing organizing strengths and tactics, and implement new approaches that support a focus on collective, in-person organizing
• Lead key components of the national organizing strategy, including leadership development, base-building and relational organizing, partnerships and coalitions, strategic actions, and program evaluation
• Provide guidance and informal mentorship to interns, volunteers, and team members, coordinating their work to support team goals
• Develop and implement a plan for youth engagement in our grassroots organizing efforts across the country, identifying in-person and virtual engagement strategies
• Analyze trends and metrics to measure youth engagement, political behavior, and electoral issue attitudes to inform strategy
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with coalitions and other partners focused on students, youth-led movements, and others who want to engage youth in organizing efforts

Senior Manager, Organizing – Youth

Senior Manager, Organizing overseeing youth engagement and building a stronger organizing program at Common Cause. Role is remote within the lower 48 US states with frequent travel required.

• Support our strategic use of social media across the organization
• Monitor trends and opportunities across social media platforms to identify opportunities for our organization to gain visibility on our key policy issues
• Draft communication content (e.g. talking points) for staff to use to amplify our work
• Stay up to date on how to best use our current social media platforms to maximize our audience reach
• Coordinate our process to track media hits and maintain weekly analytics on earned and owned media
• Maintain process to send our organization’s media clips each morning
• Maintain systems to ensure accurate data for all required metrics, and draft data summaries to share progress with key stakeholders
• Draft scripts for, produce, and edit videos to promote our work; including selfie-videos, short-form videos (up to two minutes), and long-form videos (up to five minutes)
• Draft, and post blogs that promote our work and our policy expertise
• Draft social media posts in alignment with our overall communication team strategy
• Create graphics and motion graphics that are aligned with our branding
• As needed, draft and edit additional media materials, including press releases, media advisories, statements, op-eds, letters to the editor, etc.
• As needed, support other key communication work (for example: editing Instagram Lives, technical support with Zoom events, etc.)
