About the role

  • Character Texture Artist developing complex photorealistic textures for high-end VFX productions at Cinesite. Collaborating with various teams to achieve high-quality CG assets in a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Head of Builds, Lead Texture Artist, modeling team and production to achieve the desired visual look of characters and CG objects.
  • Create photorealistic organic textures for primary digital characters (hero assets) using provided photographic references and/or concept art.
  • Develop complex surface textures and prepare surface files for lighting.
  • Work closely with the modeling team to ensure UVs are positioned and scaled efficiently.
  • Perform quality control on texture maps before publication to ensure consistency and compliance with project standards.
  • Liaise with the Look Development team to adjust textures and optimize shaders as needed.
  • Follow guidelines and incorporate feedback from supervisors and project leads, taking production notes into account.
  • Meet production schedules and deadlines while maintaining the highest quality standards.
  • Communicate regularly with production and team leads regarding task progress, schedules and deadlines.
  • Share techniques, references and ideas with the team to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to effective problem-solving and the sharing of relevant information within the Asset department.
  • Continue to develop expertise by staying up to date on new tools, software, data and related technologies.

Requirements

  • Proven experience creating highly realistic textures for creatures and characters.
  • Experience producing high-quality texture maps for human digi-doubles.
  • Strong understanding of the visual effects production pipeline and the role of texturing in creating photoreal CG assets.
  • Advanced proficiency in Mari, Substance, Photoshop and Maya.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality textures by combining photographic references and digital painting techniques.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with modelers and Look Development artists in a team environment while following direction from supervisors and leads.
  • Experience managing and applying UVs; familiarity with Mudbox or ZBrush is considered an asset.
  • Proactive attitude with excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong creative problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
