About the role

  • Senior Accountant overseeing finance and accounting operations for an insurance agency. Collaborating with various stakeholders and guiding junior staff in a hybrid environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage all accounting functions related to occupational accident operations, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, GAAP, and internal policies.
  • Prepare, analyze, and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting, ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Conduct detailed account reconciliations and address discrepancies.
  • Prepare monthly general ledger interface entries to record premiums, expenses, losses, and commissions.
  • Analyze financial data and provide insights to support decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Support preparation of budgets and forecasts providing detailed financial analysis.
  • Oversee invoice, vendor payment, and commission payment processes, resolving discrepancies as needed.
  • Guide and mentor junior accounting staff, fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Collaborate with auditors during audits, providing necessary documentation.
  • Review, improve, and implement process changes for accounting operations efficiency.
  • Assist in reviewing business processes for improvements and supporting implementation projects.
  • Stay current on industry trends and best practices to enhance accounting operations effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Accounting, Finance, or Business required.
  • Minimum of 6+ years of professional accounting experience, ideally within the insurance industry.
  • Experience with insurance agency accounting/bookkeeping desired.
  • Intermediate experience with Word, Outlook, Access, and database management; Tableau experience is a plus.
  • Strong emphasis on advanced Excel knowledge, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
  • Experience with Salesforce and/or an Agency Management System (AMS) like Accounting Seed is a plus.
