About the role

  • Engineering Manager providing technical and people leadership for Large Mining Trucks at Caterpillar Inc. Driving quality, improving processes, and collaborating cross-functionally to deliver business impact.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Large Mining Truck Excellence Team, influencing both product and process throughout the lifecycle.
  • Present directly to Group Presidents and Vice Presidents.
  • Drive product quality improvements for Large Mining Trucks, including change control, software performance, and machine reliability.
  • Develop and implement engineering Built-In Quality (BIQ) processes to reduce factory deviations and improve execution.
  • Own and manage the operating budget, balancing resource planning, investments, and contractor support to maximize value.
  • Drive operational excellence, aligning workflows, resources, and schedules to meet aggressive program timelines.
  • Partner closely with engineering leaders, technical managers, manufacturing, and cross-functional teams to ensure clear requirements and seamless handoffs.
  • Monitor performance using data-driven KPIs, adjusting priorities, removing obstacles, and elevating team performance when targets are not met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.
  • Strong engineering background supporting heavy equipment.
  • Experience with product development, NPI, and lifecycle management for complex mechanical and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Exposure to advanced technologies such as autonomy, AI-enabled features, electrification, or digital systems.
  • Data-driven mindset with experience using KPIs, dashboards, and performance metrics to guide teams.
  • Strong coaching, mentoring, and talent development skills to build high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present to senior leaders and executive audiences.
  • Proven experience driving quality improvements and process optimization in factory and production environments.
  • Background in mining operations, field support, or customer-facing engineering roles.
  • Strong collaboration skills to partner effectively with manufacturing, software, design, validation, supply chain, and product teams.
  • Ability to influence without authority and lead through complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
