About the role

  • Director in Office of General Counsel leading Legislation and Policy Team. Advising on high priority legal policies and complex legislative reforms.

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive leadership in the Office of General Counsel with responsibility for the Legislation and Policy Team.
  • Advising on high priority legal policy and legislative matters.
  • Lead and provide expert technical advice on complex legislative reforms from a whole of government perspective.
  • Deliver integrated, strategic, and high quality legal and policy advice to key stakeholders.
  • Advise on a broad range of matters including constitutional, electoral, criminal justice, human rights, integrity, accountability and transparency systems, regulatory reform, parliamentary processes and major government projects and policies.
  • Support the General Counsel in overseeing the delivery of high-quality legal services in the Legislation and Policy Team.

Requirements

  • Experience in providing technically excellent legal and policy advice in complex areas, including the development of complex legislation.
  • Excellent relationship management skills.
  • Corresponding work rights for the advertised employment period.
  • Appointment to an ongoing role is only available to an Australian/New Zealand citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident.
