About the role

  • Project Accountant partnering with Project Managers for financial management across projects at Bureau Veritas. Focused on profitable, compliant servicing with emphasis on billing and cost accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Review executed proposals and contracts to confirm alignment with agreed-upon terms, conditions, and billing requirements.
  • Establish and maintain accurate project setups within the ERP system using approved pricing, budgets, and cost structures.
  • Prepare, review, and reconcile weekly unbilled and draft invoice reports; identify and resolve discrepancies proactively.
  • Generate accurate time-and-material invoices, ensuring compliance with client-specific billing formats, documentation standards, and contractual requirements.
  • Compile, organize, and present all required invoice backup, including labor, expenses, subcontractor documentation, and prevailing wage support.
  • Collaborate directly with Project Managers to resolve billing delays, cost variances, and documentation gaps.
  • Support invoice collections by providing billing status, backup documentation, and resolution of client inquiries.
  • Maintain complete and audit-ready billing files, including executed contracts, invoices, technical reports, and supporting schedules.
  • Review subcontractor invoices for accuracy and compliance; confirm executed subcontractor agreements and valid Certificates of Insurance are on file.
  • Manage manual subcontractor documentation workflows where automated systems are not available.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing requested project, billing, and compliance documentation.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Accounting or a related field required (Bachelor’s preferred)
  • Minimum of 2 years of project accounting experience or 5 years of equivalent hands-on accounting experience
  • Demonstrated experience with prevailing wage projects (California prevailing wage knowledge strongly preferred)
  • Strong background in time-and-material billing environments
  • Proven experience in cost accounting, ideally within construction, infrastructure, engineering, or technical services industries
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems; JD Edwards experience highly preferred
  • Exceptional proficiency in Excel (advanced formulas, reconciliations, reporting) and comfort working extensively with spreadsheets and PDF editing tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across project and finance teams.
